A Muslim couple from Alwar was allegedly assaulted by two men for not chanting 'Ram-Ram' late on Saturday night.

The couple, who was travelling to Haryana, was accosted by two youth at the Alwar bus stand when they were having dinner. The men, identified as Vansh Bharadwaj and Surendra Bhatia, beat up the husband for not chanting 'Ram-Ram'. They also allegedly stripped and made obscene gestures at the woman.

Hearing the couple's cry for help, nearby people gathered and beat up the accused and took them to the police station.

The couple has filed a complaint against the Bharadwaj and Bhatia at a women's police station in Alwar.

WHAT HAPPENED

According to the report, they were travelling from the wife's maternal home in Didwana to Nuh in Haryana, where they live. When the man came to pick his wife up at the Alwar bus stand.

The couple and their child were having snacks at the bus stand when two men approached them and started misbehaving.

The victims alleged that the duo told them that "Muslims stay in Hindustan but don't chant Ram-Ram" after which they started harassing the couple.

They then ordered the husband to chant 'Ram-Ram' and when he refused, they started beating him up.

When the wife protested, they started sexually harassing her. The duo proceeded to strip in front of the woman and continued to misbehave with her.

Soon, a crowd gathered and thrashed the youth, later taking them to the police station.

The Rajasthan Police got the youth treated at the Rajiv Gandhi Hospital in Alwar and after a medical test of the victim couple was conducted, a case under sections 354A (sexual harassment), 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings), 509 (outraging modesty of woman), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 386 (Extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code was filed at a women's police station.

The police has arrested Vansh Bharadwaj and Surendra Bhatia.
