Coronavirus New Variant: The risk of corona virus has increased once again in Britain. Here the new variant of Corona, Aeris, has worried the health department. According to health officials, the scientific name of the Aeris variant is EG.5.1 and it originated from Omicron. It was first detected in the UK in June. Since then new cases are coming to the fore every day. On 31 July it was classified as a new variant.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) reported that EG.5.1 is causing one in every seven new Covid cases. Due to increasing cases in Asia, its cases have increased in Britain. However, the UKHSA did not say how many countries in Asia have reported new variant ARIS cases.

People are safe because of the vaccine, but be alert: WHO Chief World Health Organization (WHO) started monitoring the EG.5.1 variant two weeks ago. WHO Chief Tedros Adnom Ghebius said – People are quite safe because of the vaccine, but no country should reduce its fight and vigilance against Corona.

The elderly are more at risk from the new variant

Of the 4,396 samples reported through the UKHSA's Respiratory Datamart system, 5.4 percent were found to be infected with the corona. While only 3.7 percent of the 4,403 samples reported last time were found infected with corona.

At the same time, the hospital admission rate has also increased. The latest data shows that 1.97% of Covid patients were hospitalized per one lakh population. The rate was 1.17% in the last UKHSA report.

Dr Mary Ramsay from the UKHSA said – We have seen an increase in Covid-19 cases this week. Most of the infected people are elderly. We are watching everything closely.

This is very dangerous, the number of genomes is increasing

UKHSA said that we got an indication of the danger we could face from the EG.5.1 variant, during Horizon Scanning on 3 July 2023 itself. Since then we started keeping an eye on it.

On 3 July it was seen as a monitoring signal, but due to the increasing number of genomes in the UK and its increasing speed in all countries, it was classified as Variant V-23JUL-01 on 31 July 2023. However, its symptoms have not been told yet.
