Bilawal said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif will again assume the role of Prime Minister, while PPP co-chairman Asif Zardari will be the next President of the country. Geo News quoted Bhutto-Zardari as saying that PPP and PML-N have achieved the required numbers and (now) we are in a position to form the government.

Agreement between PML-N and PPP

In fact, Pakistan's two major parties, PML-N and PPP, have finally reached an agreement to form a coalition government, after which several days of negotiations have ended. According to Geo News report, no party got majority after the elections. However, after much uncertainty, top leaders of PPP and PML-N confirmed that they are joining forces to form the government once again in the national interest.

Ready to form government

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari confirmed that Shehbaz Sharif will be the coalition's candidate for the post of Prime Minister and Asif Ali Zardari will be the joint candidate for the post of President of the country. Pakistan Peoples Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz now have complete numbers and we are in a position to form the next government. He said that both the parties will form the next government to take the country out of the current crisis and expressed hope that they will be able to do so.

No demand for any ministry

He said that we have agreed that we have to ensure the success of Pakistan for the coming generations. According to the report, while answering the question whether PPP was getting any portfolio, Shahbaz said that the Bilawal-led party has not demanded any ministry from the first day. He said that talks take place between the two parties and issues are resolved through mutual consultation. This does not mean that we accept their demands or that they accept our demands.

No political party has majority

No political party got a simple majority in the February 8 elections, forcing the parties to join hands to come to power, but the delay in the agreement had raised questions. After the February 8 elections, PTI-backed independent candidates captured the most National Assembly seats (92) followed by PML-N (79) and PPP (54).

Discussion on government formation

According to reports, while the parties were deliberating on government formation, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had formed an alliance with the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) to ensure that it gets the number of reserved seats in the assemblies. Find the required numbers through. However, the PPP chief told reporters that the SIC does not have sufficient numbers to form the next government at the Centre.
