Specifically, the figure stood at Rs 1. 95 lakh crore, marking a new milestone in IPO fundraising. This colossal inflow of capital not only enabled companies to finance their expansion plans but also provided investors with opportunities to earn attractive returns. The sheer volume of funds raised reflects a deep and liquid market capable of absorbing significant capital requirements.

Dominance of Mainboard IPOs

Mainboard IPOs played the most significant role in this bumper fundraising. Out of the total IPOs launched in 2025, 106 were mainboard issues, which alone raised approximately Rs 1. 83 lakh crore. This indicates that large and established companies made a strong presence in the market and garnered investor confidence. On the other hand, 259 SME (Small and Medium Enterprises) IPOs also came to the market; while their number was higher, their contribution to fundraising was limited compared to mainboard IPOs. Over the last two years, 198 mainboard companies have collectively raised around Rs 3. 6 lakh crore, affirming their growing dominance in the market.

Number of IPOs and Capital Raised

In 2025, a total of over 365 IPOs hit the market, through which a massive sum of Rs 1. 95 lakh crore was raised. This figure surpassed the performance of the previous year, 2024, when 336 IPOs collectively raised Rs 1. 90 lakh crore, while cumulatively, in these two consecutive years, 2024 and 2025, a staggering Rs 3. 8 lakh crore flowed into the market through IPOs. This amount is more than the total capital raised in the entire five-year period from 2019 to 2023, clearly demonstrating the extraordinary growth and accelerating momentum of the Indian primary market.

Major IPOs and Sectoral Trends

Of the largest IPOs in the country's history, generating considerable excitement in the market. Sector-wise, the NBFC (Non-Banking Financial Company) sector led the pack, accounting for a significant 26. 6% share of the total fundraising. This was followed by sectors such as Capital Goods, Technology, Healthcare, and Consumer Durables, indicating the diversified growth momentum across various segments of the Indian economy.

Investor interest reached its peak during this period. Over the past two years, IPOs were, on average, oversubscribed by more than 26 times, reflecting immense investor confidence and abundant liquidity in the market, while notably, several SME IPOs witnessed subscriptions exceeding 100 times, highlighting growing investor interest even in small and medium enterprises. Plus, approximately 55% of mainboard IPOs are still trading above their issue price, signaling positive returns for investors and overall market stability. This sustained performance post-listing is a crucial factor in maintaining investor trust.

Bright Future for the IPO Market

The Indian IPO market is expected to remain solid in the future. The increasing domestic investment, consistent growth in mutual fund SIPs (Systematic Investment Plans), and rising participation from retail investors are likely to ensure a continued flow of capital into the market, while emerging sectors such as Renewable Energy, Quick Commerce, and App-based businesses are poised to lead the next wave of IPOs. It's clear that India's share market has established itself as a strong, reliable, and attractive equity hub on a global scale, ready to achieve even greater heights in the years to come.
