On the occasion of New Year in Jammu and Kashmir, news of stampede in Mata Vaishno Devi temple has come to the fore. Dr Gopal Dutt, Block Medical Officer of Katra Community Health Center in Jammu and Kashmir, said, 12 people have died due to stampede at Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan and the injured have been admitted to Narayana Hospital. Lt Governor announced ex-gratia amount

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha's office tweeted, "An ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each will be given to the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the stampede and Rs 2 lakh to the injured."
