Jaipur. The country has gained independence after a long battle, thousands of sacrifices and all the oppression. Hindustan was freed from the British at midnight of 15 August 1947. For a long time, India, held in the shackles of slavery, got an opportunity to breathe in the open air, there was just an atmosphere of celebration everywhere. I consider myself lucky that I contributed to this freedom struggle. This is to say that Kalyan Singh Shekhawat, an 89-year-old soldier who fought three wars for the country's independence. Sharing their experiences on the occasion of Independence Day

He told that for this contribution I have been awarded the Military Service Medal, General Service Medal in 1947, Defense Medal in 1965.

Celebration: Walking 36 km soon after meeting the border, meet sister

Kalyan Singh says that whenever there was an opportunity to come home from duty, Nagaur would go to meet sister Ejan Kanwar, 36 km away. After a long time, whenever he returned home from duty, he brought something for Agen. After returning home, he used to go out on foot to Nagaur at 4 am the next morning, due to the fact that the sweets were not spoiled. There are five brothers and one sister, but the most attachment is from the sister. We had to come home from duty 2-3 times a year, but whenever we met each other, the day was not less than the festival of Rakhi.

My war: 36 consecutive hours of war with the Portuguese, India won

Recalling Operation Vijay of 1961, Kalyan Singh stated that the Portuguese were ruled in the Indian subcontinent Goa, Daman and Diu even after the British and France lost all colonial rights. The Portuguese were rejecting the Indian government's demand for repeated talks, after which the Indian government sent a small contingent of troops under Operation Vijay.

Operation Vijay's action was taken on 18 December 1961. A contingent of Indian troops entered the Goa border. There was a continuous war between the armies of India and Portugal for about 36 hours. The Portuguese army eventually succumbed to the Indian Army.

Courage: Indo-Pak war of 1965 was won not by weapons but by courage of soldiers.

Kalyan Singh informed that Dograi battle of 1965 war is also one of the decisive battles. Pakistan had better weapons at that time and America also gave 200 special army tanks to Pakistan. Due to this, the number of tanks near Pakistan was more than that of India, so Pakistan surrounded the entire border with tanks. This is the reason that Pakistan fought up to 70 percent of its war tanks. But Indian soldiers also did not give up.Showing our courage, our soldiers entered the Pakistani border and reached Batanagar. Later, at that time, the soldiers withdrew their steps at the behest of the Indian government. But before the ceasefire, the Indian troops recaptured Dograi after a bitter struggle. Many soldiers of both countries were killed in it.
