The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has increased the toll on the country's highways. The increased rates will be applicable from April 1. According to the notification, this increase is from Rs 10 to Rs 65. This increase in percentage ranges from 10 to 18 percent. There is a minimum one-way toll rate hike of Rs 10 for small vehicles, while commercial vehicles will have to pay a maximum toll of Rs 65, depending on the distance.

NHAI reviews and changes the toll rates at the beginning of every financial year. NHAI Project Director NN Giri has confirmed the change in toll rates. After the increase in the rates of petrol, diesel and gas, this decision of the central government is going to hit the common people further with inflation.

At Kherki Daula toll plaza on Delhi-Jaipur highway, car drivers will now have to pay Rs 80 instead of 70 for one-way journey, while truck-bus and other big vehicles will have to pay Rs 235 against 205. All toll plazas across the country have been informed of this hike and the software has been upgraded accordingly.

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala has demanded the central government to immediately withdraw the toll hike on the highways. He said that this would increase the fare of buses as well as the general inflation.
