United States President Donald Trump announced a three-week extension of the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon; however, both sides engaged in military strikes against each other on Friday. While President Trump moved to prolong the cessation of hostilities to maintain peace, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Hezbollah reported significant combat activity following the announcement.
Rocket Attacks from Lebanon and IDF Retaliation
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that rockets were initially fired from Lebanon toward Shatula in northern Israel. In response, Israel launched retaliatory strikes against Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon. The IDF successfully intercepted the incoming rockets and destroyed the launcher used for the attack. On top of that, another launcher that was prepared for firing was also targeted and destroyed. According to the IDF, three Hezbollah terrorists were killed during this military operation.
Hezbollah Targets Israeli Aircraft and Ground Troops
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the IDF stated that Hezbollah launched a surface-to-air missile at an Israeli Air Force (IAF) aircraft, though the attempt was unsuccessful, while On top of that, in two separate incidents, Hezbollah militants fired rockets and an explosive UAV (drone) at Israeli soldiers stationed south of the forward defense line in southern Lebanon. The IDF has characterized these actions as a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement.
Israeli Counter-Strikes on Hezbollah Bases
Following the provocations from the Lebanese side, the IDF conducted counter-attacks on Hezbollah's infrastructure and military bases located in southern Lebanon. These strikes resulted in the deaths of three Hezbollah militants. The Israeli military emphasized that these actions were a direct response to the rockets and explosive drones launched by Hezbollah terrorists against Israeli territory and personnel.
