With this game, India emerged victorious in the T20I series by 2-1 after losing the One-Day series by 1-2 against Australia.

Gerard Abood and Rod Tucker were appointed as the umpires by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for this thrilling affair. During the game, Abood was caught in an embarrassing incident. While walking on the field, he got hit on his head by a spider cam. Though Gerard didn’t suffer any injuries, it turned out to be a hilarious episode.

The official Twitter handle of cricket.com.au shared the clip of this funny incident with the caption, “So that’s why Gerard Abood wears the helmet”

India suffers a defeat against Australia by 12 runs

The toss went Virat Kohli’s way and he elected to bowl first. Batting first, the hosts racked up an above-par total of 186 on the board at the loss of 5 wickets in their 20 overs. Wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade emerged as the highest run-getter for his team with 80 runs off 53 deliveries.

His knock included 7 boundaries and 2 maximums at a strike rate of 150.94. Wade was aptly supported by middle-order power-hitter Glenn Maxwell who smashed 54 runs in 36 balls to lead his team towards a respectable total.

Washington Sundar was the pick of the bowlers for India as he scalped two prized wickets of Aaron Finch and former Australian captain Steve Smith. Shardul Thakur and T Natarajan also had one each to their name of Matthew Wade and Glenn Maxwell respectively.

Chasing 187, India had a torrid start as opening batsman KL Rahul bagged a duck and went back to the pavilion on the second ball of the first over by Maxwell. Though Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli tried to stabilize the innings as they collected 74 runs, Dhawan soon got out and was followed by Sanju Samson and Shreyas Iyer in the pavilion.

Indian skipper Kohli emerged as a lone warrior as he smashed a stunning 85 runs off 61 deliveries including 4 boundaries and 3 maximums but failed to take his team home. In the end, India could manage only 174 runs on the board and lost the game.
