UPI Transactions: The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), in collaboration with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), has unveiled groundbreaking new features for UPI users. Soon, individuals will be able to complete UPI transactions without needing to enter a PIN, instead using biometric authentication such as facial recognition or fingerprints. This significant upgrade is designed to streamline the payment process, making it faster and more convenient for millions of users across the country.
New Biometric and Smart Glass Features
NPCI has introduced a biometric feature for UPI, alongside the capability to make payments using smart glasses. These innovations are set to enhance the user experience by simplifying digital transactions. Popular UPI applications like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm are expected to integrate these features shortly, while users will now have the option to verify payments using their face or fingerprint, offering an alternative to the traditional PIN method and potentially increasing both speed and security.Transaction Limit for Biometric Payments
A key detail of the new biometric payment feature is the transaction limit. NPCI has set a cap of Rs 5000 for UPI payments made using biometric verification. This means that users can benefit from face or fingerprint authentication for smaller transactions up to five thousand rupees. This limitation aims to strike a balance between convenience and security, ensuring that. Users can enjoy faster checkouts for everyday purchases without repeatedly entering their PIN.
The new UPI feature is slated for a rapid rollout. Once available, users will need to open their preferred UPI app, such as Google Pay, PhonePe, or Paytm. After selecting the contact or QR code option for payment and entering the amount, they will choose the bank account from which the payment is to be made. Alongside the existing UPI PIN entry option, a new biometric authentication option will appear, while by selecting this, users can complete their payment by verifying their face or fingerprint.
