Varanasi - Varanasi News Gyanvapi Masjid Shivling hearing order on carbon dating investigation
Varanasi : The demand for a carbon dating probe into the alleged Shivling found in the Gyanvapi mosque adjacent to the Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi has been rejected. On Friday, the court of District Judge Dr. Ajay Krishna Vishwesh heard the matter. The court has rejected the demand for testing carbon dating as well as any other scientific method. The Hindu side is shocked by the court's decision. It is believed that now the Hindu side can go to the High Court.

The Jija judge, in his judgment, said that the High Court had on May 15 asked to preserve the alleged Shivling. Testing by carbon dating or any other method may damage the Shivling. There is a possibility of damage if the investigation is done by radar method also. The judge wrote that if there is damage, then the religious sentiments of the people can also get hurt. The court also observed that the ASE investigation does not appear to be an equitable settlement of the matter.

It is noteworthy that in the survey conducted during the hearing on the matter of right to worship of other Deities including Shringargauri, a Shivling-like figure was found in the Vuzukhana of Gyanvapi Mosque. Senior advocates of the Supreme Court Harishankar Jain and Vishnu Shankar Jain had submitted an application on behalf of four of the five litigants on the Hindu side to get it investigated by other scientific methods including carbon dating. One of the plaintiffs had sought some other investigation rather than carbon dating.

The Muslim side had filed an objection on two points opposing the demand for carbon dating investigation. The first objection was to its originalism. He said that this matter is not related to the original case. The second one, which is being said to be a Shivling, is in Vuzukhana and has been sealed on the orders of the Supreme Court.

Opposing the application of the Hindu side, the advocate of the Muslim side had said that the application is also filed against the proceedings report filed in the court regarding the Shivling-like figure found in the court commission proceedings. Unless this commission report is disposed of on merits, no scientific survey can be conducted.

In response to the objection of the Muslim side, the plaintiff advocate had said that the order of protection of the Supreme Court is in respect of the area and not with respect to the shape of the Shivling. Since a topic is being interpreted differently, it needs to be clear. Therefore it is absolutely necessary to have a scientific survey. The plaintiff advocate had requested the court to dismiss the objection of the Muslim side and order a scientific investigation. After this, on Tuesday, October 11, the court had reserved the order after filing an objection on behalf of the Muslim side and arguing on it.
