Bollywood actor Vicky Kaushal is set to headline the upcoming film 'Mahavatar', produced under the banner of Maddock Films. While the project was announced in 2024, the search for the female lead had been ongoing. Recent reports suggest that the makers have finally found a potential lead in Miss Universe Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu, and discussions are currently underway.
From Miss Universe to Bollywood Debut
Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu gained international fame in 2021 when she was crowned Miss Universe at the age of 21, becoming the third Indian to achieve this feat. Following her success on the global stage, she worked in Punjabi cinema before making her Bollywood debut in 2025 with Tiger Shroff’s ‘Baaghi 4’. That film was produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, a prominent Bollywood producer and a close friend of Salman Khan. Now, Harnaaz is reportedly being considered for another major cinematic venture.
Directed by Amar Kaushik under Maddock Films
'Mahavatar' is being directed by Amar Kaushik, known for the blockbuster 'Stree 2'. In this Maddock Films production, Vicky Kaushal will portray the role of Chiranjeevi Parshuram, the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu. According to a report by News18, the makers are keen on casting a fresh pair for the film, which led them to initiate talks with Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu. If the deal is finalized, she will take on the female lead role opposite Kaushal.
Release Timeline and Casting Speculations
When 'Mahavatar' was first announced, it was slated for a Christmas 2026 release. However, subsequent reports indicate that the film might now be released in 2027. While the female lead is yet to be officially confirmed, the shift in focus toward Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu marks a significant update. Earlier, there were speculations regarding Deepika Padukone or Shraddha Kapoor being signed for the film, but no official confirmation followed. The makers are now prioritizing a fresh on-screen duo for this epic production.
