Vice Presidential Election: Today, on 9 September 2025, voting is taking place in India for the post of Vice President, and the results are expected to be announced by the evening. The election is witnessing a close contest between National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate CP Radhakrishnan and opposition alliance INDIA candidate B. Sudarshan Reddy.

Parties staying away from voting

Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS), and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) have decided not to participate in this election. BJD has 7 MPs, BRS has 4, and SAD has 1 MP, that is, a total of 12 MPs will stay out of the voting process. Due to this, a total of 769 votes are expected to be cast, in which 385 votes will be required for a majority.

Gadkari and Kharge unite

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge arrived at the Parliament House to vote. During this, both the leaders were seen holding each other's hands, which is being considered a symbol of political unity.

Boycott of Independent MPs

Independent MPs Sarabjit Singh Khalsa and Amritpal Singh have announced to boycott the Vice Presidential election. This decision can affect the electoral equations.

Congress strategy and Renuka Choudhary's statement

Congress MP Renuka Choudhary reacted sharply to BRS's decision to stay away from voting. He said, "It is important to understand why such a situation arose? BJP hastily removed a Vice President and now everyone is under pressure to vote. BRS's decision is shameful, especially when our candidate is B. Sudarshan Reddy, a Telugu person who served Telangana and took important decisions as a Supreme Court judge. Are BRS's intentions good? Our candidate is morally strong, and we will win."

Support of Tejashwi Yadav

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav said, "Our full support is to B. Sudarshan Reddy." This statement shows the unity of the opposition alliance.

PM Modi casts vote

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also cast his vote in the Vice Presidential election and shared a picture of it on social media platform X.

Akhilesh Yadav's taunt

Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav targeted the BJP and said, "This voting is based on the voice of conscience. The whole country knows that BJP is a 'use and throw' party. The same happened with the Vice President. The numbers will be in our favor."

Gandhi family also voted

Senior Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi also cast their votes in the Vice Presidential election. Members of both the Houses of Parliament are voting in turns.
