Ahead of the historic voting on the Women's Reservation Bill, also known as the 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam', Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made a special appeal to all Members of Parliament and political parties. Sharing a detailed post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister urged MPs to listen to their conscience and grant the country's female population their rightful due. The voting on this bill in the Lok Sabha is scheduled for 4 PM today, Friday.
Extended Parliamentary Debate and Voting Preparations
The debate regarding the Women's Reservation Bill and delimitation has been ongoing in Parliament since Thursday. The discussion continued until 1 AM last night and resumed today, Friday. Just before the scheduled 4 PM vote, PM Modi addressed the members, asking them to take a decision with full sensitivity and vote in favor of the reservation. He clarified that all misconceptions spread regarding the bill have been addressed with logical reasoning, and every doubt has been resolved.
Four Decades of Politics and Representation
Highlighting the historical context, the Prime Minister noted that the issue of women's reservation has seen much politics over the last four decades. He emphasized that it's finally time for half of the country's population to receive their rights. According to PM Modi, it isn't right that even after decades of independence, women's representation in decision-making processes remains so low. He stated that the eyes of crores of women are currently fixed on the intentions and decisions of the Parliament.
'Remember Mother and Daughter, Listen to Your Conscience'
In a deeply personal appeal to the MPs, the Prime Minister delivered an emotional message, while he said, "I would say to all the MPs that you should listen to your conscience while remembering your mother, sister, daughter, and wife at home. This is a great opportunity to serve and honor the Nari Shakti of the country. " He prayed to the members not to do anything that would hurt the sentiments of women power.
Strengthening Democracy and Call for Unanimity
PM Modi expressed confidence that if this amendment is passed unanimously, it won't only empower the women of the country but also further strengthen India's democracy, while he concluded by calling upon the members, saying, "Let us create history together today.
