Andhra Pradesh Bus Fire - Bus burns to ashes in Kurnool, how did 25 passengers die? Investigation underway
A devastating road accident in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh, claimed the lives of 25 people in the early hours of today, while a Volvo AC bus operated by Kaveri Travels, en route from Hyderabad to Bengaluru, collided with a motorcycle near Chinna Tekur, subsequently erupting in a massive fire. The tragic incident occurred around 3 AM.
Minutes after the collision, the bus caught fire due to a fuel leak. The blaze was so intense that 25 passengers were trapped inside and burned to death. Approximately 21 passengers managed to save their lives by breaking the bus windows and jumping out. Eleven injured individuals have been admitted to the Kurnool Government Hospital for treatment.
Rescue Efforts and Investigation
According to the additional driver of the bus, they initially attempted to douse the fire, while when it became uncontrollable, they, along with passers-by, tried to break the bus windows. The Kurnool SP confirmed that those who managed to jump out of the bus survived, while the District Collector stated that there were 41 people on board, including two drivers. While 21 individuals have been accounted for, 11 bodies have been recovered from the 20 fatalities.Drivers Absconding and FIR Filed
Both drivers of the bus are reportedly absconding after the incident. There are also allegations that the bus door was closed after the fire started, preventing many passengers from escaping. Upon receiving information, fire brigade and police teams rushed to the scene and initiated rescue operations, while the bus was completely gutted. Police have registered an FIR and are conducting a thorough investigation into the accident.
