Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed a significant press conference in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday, making a landmark announcement regarding the internal security situation in the region. During his address, the Home Minister claimed that Naxalism has been completely eradicated from Bastar, a region that was once considered the epicenter of left-wing extremism. Shah extended this claim by stating that Naxalism has been wiped out not only from Chhattisgarh's Bastar but from the entire country, marking a historic shift in the nation's security landscape and internal stability.
The End of Fear in Bastar
Amit Shah emphasized that the Bastar district of Chhattisgarh was previously the most affected by Naxal activities, creating a persistent environment of insecurity. However, he asserted that today, Naxalism has been entirely eliminated from the area. According to the Home Minister, the atmosphere of fear that once gripped Chhattisgarh has finally come to an end, paving the way for peace and stability, while this visit marks his first trip to Bastar since the declaration of the region being Naxal-free, highlighting the importance of the current security status and the transition towards a normal life for the residents.
A New Era of Development
The Home Minister provided a new perspective on the relationship between Naxalism and development. He stated that it wasn't a lack of development that caused Naxalism, but rather Naxalism that was preventing development from reaching the people. With the threat removed, a new beginning for development has started in Bastar. Shah pointed out that the date 19 May 2026 holds significant importance in this journey of progress. He announced ambitious plans for the tribal population, stating that every tribal individual in Bastar will be provided with 1 cow and 1 buffalo. This initiative is part of a larger plan to establish a massive dairy network within the Bastar division, aimed at boosting the local economy and providing sustainable livelihoods for the tribal communities.
Empowering Tribals and Forest Produce
In addition to the dairy initiatives, the Union Home Minister mentioned that the benefits of forest produce from the jungles would be directly delivered to the tribal communities. This move is intended to ensure that the natural wealth of the region benefits those who have lived there for generations. By integrating the tribal population into the economic mainstream through dairy and forest-based industries, the government aims to solidify the peace achieved through security operations. Shah reiterated that the focus is now on ensuring that every tribal family receives the fruits of development that were previously blocked by extremist activities.
Political Critique and Government Action
Amit Shah didn't hold back in his criticism of the previous administration. He expressed that while it's a matter of joy for everyone that Bastar is now Naxal-free, certain dates are crucial to understanding this transition. He specifically mentioned 13 December 2023, the date when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government was formed in the state. Shah stated without hesitation that the previous Congress government in Chhattisgarh didn't cooperate with the central authorities in the mission to eliminate Naxalism. He claimed that once the BJP government took office, the operations against Naxals were intensified, leading to the results visible today. The Home Minister concluded that the synergy between the state and central governments under the BJP leadership has been the driving force behind the successful eradication of the Naxal threat across the nation.
