Following the vibrant opening ceremony held at the Mizuho Park Stadium in Nagoya on Saturday evening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media to encourage the Indian athletes. In a post on his X handle, the Prime Minister wrote that as the Asian Games begin in Aichi-Nagoya, he extends his best wishes to the Indian contingent. He highlighted the immense effort put in by every player, noting that they've shown tremendous dedication and spirit. The Prime Minister stated that India is proud of its athletes and expressed three specific wishes for them: that they give their best performance, play well, and shine bright on the international stage.
The Grand Opening Ceremony and Flag Bearers
The opening ceremony at the Mizuho Park Stadium was a colorful affair, featuring thousands of athletes from all 45 participating nations. The athletes marched in their respective national uniforms, waving their flags with pride as they were welcomed by thousands of spectators in the stadium. Representing the Indian contingent as flag bearers were shooter Manu Bhaker and kabaddi player Pawan Sehrawat. Their presence at the front of the Indian parade symbolized the diversity and strength of the nearly 500-member Indian squad participating in these games.

Even before the official opening ceremony, the Indian campaign had already seen some significant action. The Indian women's cricket team began its journey on September 18 in the quarter-final match. The Indian team secured a victory against the host nation, Japan, thereby confirming their place in the semi-finals. In the upcoming semi-final match, the Indian women's team is scheduled to face Bangladesh. Meanwhile, in the women's teqball singles event, India's Quimcy D'Souza competed in the semi-finals on September 19.
