The sacred festival of Karwa Chauth, observed on the Chaturthi Tithi of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Kartik, is celebrated by married women for the everlasting fortune and long life of their husbands. On this day, women observe a Nirjala fast (without food or water) from sunrise until moonrise. If you're also observing the Karwa Chauth fast today, here's everything you need to know about the auspicious puja timings, moonrise schedule, and the complete puja method for a successful fast.

Karwa Chauth 2025: Auspicious Timings and Moonrise

According to the Hindu calendar, the Chaturthi Tithi began at 10:54 PM on October 9th and will conclude today, October 10th, at 07:38 PM. Due to Udaya Tithi, the fast is being observed today.

Auspicious Puja Muhurat: 05:57 PM to 07:11 PM * Fasting Duration: 06:19 AM to 08:13 PM * Moonrise Time: 08:13 PM (may vary slightly based on local timings)

Karwa Chauth Puja Method

The Karwa Chauth fast begins before sunrise with the consumption of. 'Sargi,' a nutritious meal given by the mother-in-law to her daughter-in-law. After Sargi, the Nirjala fast commences with sunrise. In the evening, during the auspicious muhurat, women adorn themselves with 'solah shringar' (16 traditional embellishments) and worship Chauth Mata (Goddess Parvati) and Lord Shiva. Install idols or pictures of Lord Shiva, Mata Parvati, Kartikeya, and Ganesha at the puja altar. Place a mud pot (Karwa), fill it with water, add a coin, and cover it with a red cloth. Begin the puja by invoking all deities. The puja thali should contain all shringar items, sweets, fruits, and other offerings, while listen to the Karwa Chauth Katha collectively and perform Aarti.

Moon Sighting and Breaking the Fast

After listening to the Katha, wait for the moonrise. Once the moon appears, first view it through a sieve with a lamp placed in it. Then offer Arghya to the moon and pray for your husband's long life and good fortune. Subsequently, look at your husband's face through the same sieve. Touch his feet to seek blessings. Finally, break your fast (Paran) by drinking water and eating sweets offered by your husband. After completing the fast, don't forget to seek blessings from the elders of the house.
