The International Cricket Council (ICC) has imposed a financial penalty on the Bangladesh cricket team following the conclusion of the second ODI in their ongoing series against New Zealand. Despite securing a convincing victory in the match, the team was found to be in breach of the ICC Code of Conduct regarding over-rates.

Penalty for Slow Over-Rate Offense

Bangladesh was found guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate during the second ODI of the three-match series. ICC Match Referee Andy Pycroft ruled that the team was two overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration. Consequently, a fine of 10 percent of their match fees was imposed on the entire team.

Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz Accepts Charges

Following the assessment by the match officials, Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz admitted to the offense. Since the captain accepted the proposed sanction, there was no requirement for a formal hearing, while the charges were leveled by the on-field umpires and confirmed by the match referee.

The three-match ODI series between Bangladesh and New Zealand is currently leveled at 1-1. New Zealand secured a victory in the first ODI by 26 runs, while Bangladesh made a strong comeback in the second match, winning by 6 wickets to keep the series alive.
