The Board of Control for Cricket in India, commonly known as the BCCI, has taken a major and significant decision regarding the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. The board has officially extended the IPL retention deadline. In this regard, information was officially communicated to all the franchise teams on Monday. Prior to this major change, the initial deadline for player retention was set until November 15, which has now been revised by the board.

Two Days Extension Given for Finalizing Retained Players

The BCCI has pushed the final date for franchises to submit their retained players list forward by two days. On November 2, which was a Monday, the board conveyed this update to all the participating franchise teams. Following this new adjustment, teams now have until November 17 instead of November 15 to submit their final list of players. However, the board has clarified that there are no changes to the date and venue of the upcoming IPL mini auction, which will proceed as per the original schedule on December 16 in Goa.

Schedule Revised Due to India Versus New Zealand Match

The primary reason behind this crucial decision by the BCCI is that the fifth and final One Day International match between India and New Zealand is scheduled to be played in Mount Maunganui on November 15. Team India is currently on an important tour of New Zealand, where a five match ODI series is set to commence from November 4. Because the match falls on November 15, the board decided to grant all franchises two extra days to finalize player names and prepare their lists. Consequently, all teams can now submit their lists of retained and released players until November 17.

India Versus Sri Lanka Match Scheduled on Mini Auction Day

Interestingly, on the exact same day when the IPL mini auction is scheduled to take place on December 16, the Indian national cricket team also has an international fixture against Sri Lanka. This second ODI match between India and Sri Lanka is scheduled to be played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Despite both major events falling on the same date, the board has decided not to make any alterations to the scheduled auction date.

Registration Process Begins Along with Upcoming Auction Schedule

The registration process for players wanting to participate in the upcoming IPL auction has officially commenced. The final deadline for all franchise teams to retain or release their players is November 17, whereas the player registration window will officially close on November 23. Following these deadlines, the final shortlisted list of players participating in the auction will be released on December 3. Also, the trading window remains open ahead of the auction, creating strong possibilities for several players to switch between different franchise teams.
