Bengaluru Stampede - Big decision in the Bangalore stampede case- IPL matches will not be held at RCB's home!

Bengaluru Stampede: A shocking news has come out for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. No IPL match will be held at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru next year. The decision has been taken after investigating the Bengaluru stampede case, in which the inquiry commission has declared the stadium unsafe for big events. This decision has come as a big shock to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and their fans. Along with this, the Karnataka government has also approved the prosecution against RCB and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).

What is the stampede case?

Last year, RCB defeated Punjab Kings in the final match of IPL 2025 played at Chinnaswamy Stadium on 3 June 2025 to win the IPL title for the first time. During an event organized in Bengaluru on June 4 to celebrate the victory, there was a sudden stampede in the stadium. 11 people lost their lives and about 50 people were injured in this tragic accident. This incident shook the whole country.

After the incident, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah constituted an inquiry commission led by retired Justice Michael D'Cunha. The commission's report held RCB, KSCA and event management company DNA Entertainment Networks Pvt Ltd responsible for the stampede. This report of Justice D'Cunha was approved by the Karnataka Cabinet on 24 July 2025.

Why was Chinnaswamy Stadium banned?

The inquiry commission report states that the Chinnaswamy Stadium does not meet the safety standards for big events. Flaws were found in the stadium's crowd management system and emergency exit facilities. Due to this, the commission has indefinitely banned any major event in the stadium. This will have a direct impact on IPL 2026, as RCB will not be able to play a single match on its home ground.

However, there is no official confirmation on this decision yet. The BCCI and the IPL Organizing Committee are deliberating on the matter, but according to sources, the possibility of hosting IPL matches in Bengaluru is extremely low.

Legal action against RCB and KSCA

Based on the recommendations of the inquiry commission, the Karnataka government has given permission to prosecute RCB and KSCA. Apart from this, event management company DNA Entertainment Networks Pvt Ltd will also face legal action. The commission has found all these parties guilty of negligence in security and crowd management. The matter will now go to court, the result of which is eagerly awaited by cricket fans.

Challenges for RCB

This is a double blow for RCB. On the one hand, they will not be able to play IPL 2026 matches at their home ground, which will disappoint their fans. On the other hand, their image and financial condition may also be affected due to legal action. Chinnaswamy Stadium has been the stronghold of RCB, where their fans always cheer them with enthusiasm. Not having matches in this stadium can also affect the morale and performance of the team.

Future prospects

This situation has raised many questions. Will RCB have to find an alternative ground for its home matches? Will the Chinnaswamy Stadium be able to host big events again after renovation? These questions may be answered in the coming months. Discussions are on between the BCCI and the Karnataka government on this issue. At the same time, the RCB management is also devising a strategy to deal with this crisis.
