In a significant administrative overhaul, the Bihar government has announced the transfer and posting of 29 police officers, including 27 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers. This major reshuffle, led by the government under Samrat Choudhary, aims to streamline law enforcement across various districts and specialized units. The Home Department issued the official notification late Thursday night, detailing the new assignments for these high-ranking officials.
New District Police Captains Appointed
The reshuffle has seen the appointment of new police captains in 13 key districts. According to the notification, Kumar Gautam has been appointed as the Superintendent of Police (SP) for Bettiah (West Champaran). Upendra Nath Verma will take charge as the SP of Aurangabad, while Amitesh Kumar has been posted as the SP of Banka. In a notable change, Shaurya Suman has been designated as the new Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for Purnia.
Other significant district appointments include Himanshu as the SP of Sheikhpura, Rajesh Kumar as the SP of Bagaha, and Shubhank Mishra as the SP of Vaishali. Shikhar Chaudhary has been assigned the role of SP in Kaimur, while Vikram Sihag will serve as the SP of Saharsa, while bhanu Pratap Singh has been moved to Khagaria as SP, Parichay Kumar to Katihar as SP, Kota Kiran Kumar to Jehanabad as SP, and Shailendra Singh will take over as the SP of Sheohar.
Changes in Urban and Rural Policing
The state capital, Patna, has seen a complete change in its urban police leadership. Shailja has been appointed as the City SP (East) Patna, Sanket Kumar as the City SP (West) Patna, and Mamta Kalyani, an officer of the Bihar Police Service, has been given the responsibility of City SP (Central) Patna. These changes are expected to bring a fresh perspective to the policing of the capital city.
Beyond Patna, other major cities have also received new officers. Atulesh Jha has been appointed as the City SP of Bhagalpur, and Abhinav will serve as the City SP of Gaya. To strengthen rural policing, Divyanjali Jaiswal has been posted as the Rural SP of Gaya, and Sakshi कुमारी has been appointed as the Rural SP of Darbhanga.
Specialized Units and Administrative Roles
Several officers have been moved to specialized wings of the Bihar Police. Rakesh Kumar, who was previously the SP of Khagaria, has been transferred to the Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP)- 5 in Patna. Harimohan Shukla, formerly the SP of Kaimur, has been appointed as the Commandant of BSAP- 7 in Katihar. Baliram Kumar Chaudhary, who served as the Sheikhpura SP, has been moved to the Special Branch as SP (Security).
Ambarish Rahul, the former SP of Aurangabad, has been appointed as the Assistant Director of the Bihar Police Academy in Rajgir. Ramanand Kaushal has been assigned the role of SP in the Crime Investigation Department (CID), while chandra Prakash has been made the Commandant of BSAP- 10 in Patna, with the additional responsibility of SP for the Cyber Crime and Security Unit. Aparajit, the former Jehanabad SP, has been moved to BSAP- 16 in Patna as Commandant. Sweety Sehrawat, previously the Purnia SP, will now serve as SP in the Special Branch. On top of that, Manoj Ram, an officer of the Bihar Police Service, has been appointed as the Principal of the Constable Training School in Nathnagar.
