The political landscape of West Bengal has witnessed a significant development as the results for the re-voting held at the Falta assembly seat were officially announced today. In a major blow to the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Debangshu Panda has secured a landslide victory. This win is particularly noteworthy because the Falta constituency is widely regarded as a stronghold of Abhishek Banerjee, the nephew of TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee. The emergence of the 'lotus' in this bastion marks a pivotal moment in the state's electoral history, reflecting a shift in voter sentiment within the region.

Detailed Breakdown of the Election Results

According to the official data released after the counting process, BJP's Debangshu Panda garnered a total of 149666 votes, showcasing a strong mandate from the electorate. His primary challenger, Shambhu Nath Kurmi of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPM, managed to secure 40645 votes. Consequently, Debangshu Panda emerged victorious with a massive margin of 109021 votes. The scale of this victory has sent ripples through the political corridors of West Bengal, especially given the historical significance of the seat and its association with the top leadership of the TMC.

Performance of Other Candidates

The Indian National Congress occupied the third position in this electoral contest. Their candidate, Abdur Razzak Molla, received 10084 votes. Interestingly, the TMC candidate, Jahangir Khan, finished in a distant fourth place, managing to poll only 7783 votes. It's important to note that Jahangir Khan had expressed his reluctance to contest the election even before the re-voting took place, which likely contributed to the party's dismal performance in what was once considered their fortress, while the low vote count for the TMC candidate highlights the unusual circumstances surrounding this particular re-election.

Mamata Banerjee's Strong Reaction and Allegations

Following the declaration of these results and the broader assembly election outcomes announced on May 4, West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee addressed the public via a Facebook Live session. This was her first major public appearance and statement since the results were declared, as she had refrained from holding traditional press conferences, while during her address, she leveled several serious allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Election Commission, questioning the fairness of the entire process.

Claims of Data Hacking and Electoral Manipulation

" She alleged that the Election Commission had hacked the data and claimed that she and her agents were forcibly removed from the process. According to her assessment, the TMC should have ideally won between 220 and 230 seats. However, she claimed that the results were manipulated, leading to a reversal of fortunes in at least 150 seats. She emphasized that the public wasn't at fault but rather the system that allowed such discrepancies to occur during the counting and data management phases.

Allegations of Violence and Demand for EVM Reports

The TMC leader further expressed concerns about the safety and security of the people in the state. She claimed that there is a prevailing sense of fear among the citizens regarding their jobs and businesses. She accused the opposition of looting votes and stated that between 2000 and 2500 of her party workers had been arrested. Also, she alleged that several party offices had been demolished in the aftermath of the elections. In light of these events, she has demanded a comprehensive report on the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), stating that officials are currently monitoring the situation closely.

Future Communication Strategy

In a stern warning to the BJP, Mamata Banerjee stated that while they might have "looted" Bengal, their hold on Delhi would eventually crumble. " Concluding her address, she declared that she wouldn't be speaking to the media for the time being. Instead, she identified Facebook as her primary "weapon" and stated that any future communications or statements would be made directly through Facebook Live sessions to maintain a direct link with the people.
