The breakthrough came through a detailed survey of soil samples and broken rock fragments. Scientists explained that the region was originally composed of alkaline granite rocks. Over time, the extreme weather conditions, characterized by the harsh cold of winter and the heat of summer, created a continuous cycle of freezing and thawing.
