Similarly, tourism officials in Inner Mongolia's Sonid Left Banner announced the cancellation of a drone show scheduled for August 8, citing the need to comply with stringent airspace regulations and flight path protocols. Amidst the cancellations, an alleged government document has been circulating on the internet, claiming that the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Southern Theater Command has ordered the suspension of drone flights in six provinces under its jurisdiction starting last Friday. The tightening of rules comes at a time when China is otherwise promoting the low-altitude economy as a key sector for future growth. The sudden crackdown on drone activities is believed to be linked to heightened safety concerns following a serious aviation accident in Beijing in June. During that incident, a two-seater sports aircraft crashed into the CITIC Tower, which is the tallest building in the capital, while the tragic accident resulted in the death of the pilot and left 13 people injured. In the aftermath, authorities instructed general aviation institutions to suspend flight training to conduct thorough safety inspections and implement necessary improvements.
