India - Congress And Bjp Reaction On Supreme Court's Decision On Demonetisation
BJP-Congress On Demonetisation Decision: The Supreme Court on Monday (January 2) upheld the Central Government's decision to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes six years ago. There have been different reactions from both BJP and Congress on this decision. The Congress has expressed displeasure over the decision of the Supreme Court. While welcoming the decision, the BJP has called it historic.

The Congress on Monday said that it is completely misleading and wrong to say that the Supreme Court has justified demonetisation. Party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said in a statement that the apex court has given its verdict on whether Section 26(2) of the Reserve Bank Act, 1934 was implemented correctly before the announcement of demonetisation. He alleged that demonetisation was a disastrous decision which halted economic progress and resulted in loss of lakhs of jobs.

What did Congress say on demonetisation?

According to Jairam Ramesh, it has not been said anywhere in the decision of the court whether the objectives of demonetisation were fulfilled or not. The Supreme Court's decision on demonetisation is only limited to the procedure and has nothing to do with the consequences of demonetisation. On the other hand, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said that the result of the demonetisation implemented by the Modi government – 120 people lost their lives, crores of people lost their jobs, the unorganized sector was destroyed, black money did not decrease, fake notes increased, Modi government's note ban The decision will always remain a deep wound on the Indian economy.

BJP called the decision historic

Welcoming the Supreme Court's decision on demonetisation, the Bharatiya Janata Party termed it as historic and asked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi whether he would apologize to the nation for campaigning against demonetisation. Former Union Minister and senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said that demonetisation played an important role in breaking the backbone of terrorism.

"The decision was taken in the national interest"

Ravi Shankar Prasad said that this decision was taken in the interest of the country. Due to this the economy also became clean. He said that today a very important decision of the Supreme Court has come. The court has rejected all the petitions challenging the legality of the Modi government's historic decision in 2016 to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes. This entire policy was done to stop terror financing, counterfeit notes and money laundering, etc. This historic decision has been found correct by the court today, while the Congress had created a lot of ruckus about it.

What did the Supreme Court say?

The Supreme Court on Monday said that the Centre's decision to demonetise the Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 series notes in 2016 cannot be justified. Justice S. A. A five-judge constitution bench headed by Nazeer said that the decision in this regard was taken after consultations between the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the government.
