Delhi NCR Weather Update: Dust Storm and Heavy Rain Bring Major Relief

The weather in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) took a dramatic and sudden turn on Saturday afternoon, bringing much-needed respite to residents who had been reeling under a severe heatwave. The region was engulfed by dark clouds, followed by high-velocity dust storms and heavy rainfall that transformed the atmosphere across the capital and its neighboring cities. This shift in weather patterns has Importantly lowered the mercury, making the environment pleasant after days of intense heat.

Impact on Infrastructure and Traffic

While the rain brought relief from the heat, it also led to several logistical challenges across the city. Reports of waterlogging emerged from various parts of Delhi-NCR, which subsequently slowed down the pace of traffic on major arterial roads. The intensity of the dust storm was such that trees were uprooted in several localities. A significant incident was reported on the route from the ITO intersection towards Deendayal Upadhyay Marg, where a massive tree fell onto a moving car. Fortunately, the driver of the vehicle escaped the incident without any injuries, although the car sustained extensive damage due to the impact. Authorities have been working to clear such obstructions to restore the normal flow of traffic.

Significant Drop in Temperatures

The recent spell of rain has had a substantial impact on the regional temperature. According to the latest data, there has been a cumulative drop of 9 degrees Celsius in the maximum temperature over the last three days. Prior to this change, Delhi-NCR was experiencing extreme weather conditions with temperatures soaring past the 45 degrees Celsius mark in many areas. For today, the maximum temperature is expected to settle around 36 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature could drop to 25 degrees Celsius, marking a significant departure from the previous week's heatwave conditions.

IMD Forecast and Alerts for Sunday

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that this period of atmospheric instability will continue for a few more days. A weather alert has been issued for both Saturday and Sunday, warning of further rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds. The current cycle of rainfall, which began on Thursday, is expected to persist until Sunday. Specifically for the next 3 hours, a specialized alert has been issued for Noida, predicting heavy rain, dust storms, and lightning. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions while traveling, as the combination of rain and wind may continue to affect visibility and traffic movement across the NCR.
