The Delhi Police has implemented a comprehensive security framework across the national capital to ensure a peaceful and safe celebration of Holi. Special emphasis has been placed on the Central District, where rigorous security protocols are in effect to allow citizens to celebrate the festival of colors without disruption. According to senior police officials, the deployment aims to deter any potential law and order issues during the festivities.
Massive Deployment in Central District and Paramilitary Support
As per official reports, more than 700 police personnel have been stationed across the Central District alone. To augment the local police force, two companies of paramilitary forces have also been deployed in the region, while this combined force is tasked with maintaining a constant vigil in sensitive areas and responding immediately to any reports of misconduct or illegal activities. The authorities have emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards those who violate public order.
Strict Directives Against Forced Coloring and Public Nuisance
Additional DCP of the Central District, Rishi Kumar Singh, conducted a foot patrol with his team to review the security arrangements on the ground. The police have issued a public advisory urging citizens to respect personal boundaries. Applying colors to individuals without their consent is strictly prohibited and will be treated as a punishable offense. Also, personnel in civilian clothes have been deployed to monitor public spaces and ensure the safety of women and children.
Surveillance via CCTV Drones and Aerial Monitoring
To enhance the effectiveness of the security grid, the Delhi Police is leveraging advanced technology, while drones are being utilized for aerial surveillance in crowded marketplaces and congested residential lanes where manual patrolling might be limited. On top of that, a network of CCTV cameras installed at strategic intersections is being monitored in real-time from centralized control rooms to identify and address any suspicious movements or gatherings.
Operational Status of Liquor Shops During the Festival
In a departure from previous years, liquor shops in Delhi will remain operational on Holi. The Delhi Government has excluded Holi from the list of 'Dry Days' for the current cycle. According to an official order issued in January, only specific occasions such as Republic Day, Maha Shivratri, Eid-ul-Fitr, Ram Navami, and Mahavir Jayanti are designated as dry days until the end of March. This policy change ensures that licensed outlets remain open during the festival.
Traffic Management and Road Safety Protocols
The Delhi Traffic Police has initiated a special drive to curb traffic violations during the Holi celebrations. Special teams have been formed to check for drunken driving, over-speeding, and triple-riding on two-wheelers. Checkpoints have been established at major arterial roads and intersections. The police have urged commuters to adhere to traffic regulations and avoid reckless behavior on the roads to prevent accidents and ensure a safe environment for all.
