The weather in Delhi-NCR, including Noida and Greater Noida, took a sudden turn on Thursday. While residents were struggling with intense sun and humidity until the morning, dark clouds covered the sky by the afternoon. The transition happened so rapidly that rain began within a few hours, turning the sweltering heat into a pleasant atmosphere. Along with Delhi, several areas reported strong dust storms, rain, and hailstorms, Notably altering the local climate.
Yellow Alert and Impact of Dust Storms
After several days of intense heat, people finally found relief. Initially, dust storms swept through many locations, leading to a significant reduction in visibility. However, the subsequent rainfall effectively settled the dust. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Delhi-NCR for the entire day, predicting continued storms, rain, and hailstorms, while according to the department, the sky will remain partially covered with dark clouds throughout the day.
Property Damage and High Wind Speeds
The weather forecast indicates very light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning, with surface winds blowing at speeds of 30-40 km/h, potentially reaching 50 km/h later in the afternoon. In the Sahibabad area of Ghaziabad, heavy hailstorms were reported alongside the rain. Commuters were seen rushing to find shelter to protect themselves from the falling hail. The impact of the large, fast-falling hailstones was severe enough to pierce PVC sheets and reportedly break the windows of several vehicles.
Due to the rainfall and storm, the temperature has already seen a decline of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department suggests that a further drop in temperature may be recorded on Friday, providing continued respite from the heat.
