Shortly after taking charge as the Chief Minister of Karnataka, DK Shivakumar has announced a series of significant and essential decisions aimed at the development of Bengaluru and the welfare of the state's youth. Addressing the long-standing issues that have tarnished the reputation of Bengaluru on a global scale, the new administration has prioritized infrastructure and employment. Bengaluru, widely recognized as the IT Capital of India, has been struggling with deteriorating road conditions, persistent potholes, and severe traffic congestion. To tackle these challenges head-on, the government led by DK Shivakumar has allocated a substantial budget of 2000 crore in its very first major decision to improve the city's road network and infrastructure.

Infrastructure Overhaul and Traffic Management

The primary focus of the new government is to restore the glory of Bengaluru by fixing the infrastructure that has been a cause of international criticism. The allocation of 2000 crore is specifically designated for the repair of roads and the elimination of potholes that have plagued commuters for years. By addressing these fundamental issues, the government aims to streamline traffic flow and reduce the daily commute time for millions of residents and IT professionals. This move is seen as a critical step in maintaining Bengaluru's status as a global technology hub.

Relief for Unauthorized Buildings and Property Owners

In another major policy shift, the government has addressed the issue of unauthorized constructions in Bengaluru. Many houses and buildings in the city were constructed without proper planning or by violating government regulations, such as exceeding the permitted height. Following Supreme Court orders, there were directives to disconnect electricity and water supplies to such violating properties. To protect the public from this crisis, the government is introducing a new scheme to regularize these unauthorized houses. Chief Minister DK Shivakumar noted that many houses were built without adequate planning, leading to legal hurdles in obtaining essential services.

The government has decided to issue Completion and Occupancy Certificates (CC/OC) for 30 to 40 sites. Plus, a One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme will be introduced for properties measuring up to 2500 square feet. This initiative is expected to provide significant relief to homeowners who have been facing the threat of utility disconnections and legal action. Those who have already applied for these benefits will receive direct advantages under the new policy.

Employment Generation and Youth Welfare

The youth of Karnataka have also received promising news from the new administration. DK Shivakumar announced that the government will strive to create 50,000 posts within the state. He emphasized that by the next cabinet meeting, the government will discuss the issuance of job notifications and a recruitment calendar. This structured approach is intended to provide clarity and opportunities for job seekers across various sectors.

In a unique move to support those seeking employment in the private sector, the government is launching a Private Employment Exchange program. Under this initiative, the government will enroll job-seeking youth and identify their specific career requirements, while the program will include training and preparation modules to ensure that the candidates are well-equipped to secure jobs in their chosen fields. However, a key condition of this program is that priority will be given to the youth of Karnataka who are actively searching for employment. Also, the government has announced the provision of free bus passes for students to ease their educational commute.

Empowering Youth through Bharat Jodo Yuvak Sangha

A project close to the Chief Minister's heart is the establishment of the Bharat Jodo Yuvak Sangha. The government has decided to start 10,000 such associations across the state. To support this initiative, the government will provide 10 lakh rupees for each association. These units will function like youth clubs, designed to encourage young people to participate in sports, culture, and history. The ultimate goal of these clubs is to foster leadership qualities among the youth and ensure their holistic development within the community.
