A New Chapter in Bihar Politics: First BJP Chief Minister

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Tarapur MLA Samrat Choudhary is set to take the oath of office as the Chief Minister shortly. By taking this oath, Samrat Choudhary will script a new chapter in the political history of Bihar, becoming the first-ever Chief Minister from the BJP in the state. While the BJP has been a long-term partner in the state government under the NDA banner since its inception, and several of its legislators have served as Deputy Chief Ministers, Samrat Choudhary will be the first to hold the Chief Ministerial post. In this regard, he has established a unique record in his name.

Two Senior JDU Leaders to Join the Cabinet

According to available information, along with Samrat Choudhary taking the oath as Chief Minister, two senior leaders from the Janata Dal (United), Vijay Choudhary and Vijendra Yadav, will also be sworn in. Both Vijay Choudhary and Vijendra Yadav are considered highly trusted and close aides of CM Nitish Kumar. Vijay Choudhary has previously served as a Minister and held the post of Assembly Speaker during the NDA regime. Similarly, Vijendra Yadav has consistently served as a senior minister during the NDA administration and is counted among the closest associates of CM Nitish Kumar.

Political Trajectories of the Appointees

There is a notable similarity between Samrat Choudhary, who is taking the oath as the state's Chief Minister, and the two senior JDU leaders, Vijendra Yadav and Vijay Choudhary. While Samrat Choudhary moved through several parties before joining the BJP, Vijay Choudhary and Vijendra Yadav also began their political journeys with other parties.

Detailed Political History of Vijendra Yadav

In 1990, Vijendra Yadav won the election on a ticket from the then Janata Dal. When Lalu Prasad Yadav's tenure began in 1990, Vijendra Yadav was appointed as the Minister of State for Energy in 1991. During the split in the Janata Dal in 1997, which led to the formation of two separate factions under Sharad Yadav and Lalu Prasad, Vijendra Yadav chose to align with Sharad Yadav. He has remained with the JDU ever since.

Claim to Form Government and Ceremony Schedule

Following CM Nitish Kumar's resignation on Tuesday and the subsequent election of the NDA legislative party leader, Samrat Choudhary met Governor Syed Ata Hasnain on Wednesday evening to stake a claim to form the government. Consequently, he will be administered the oath of office as the Chief Minister at 11 AM on Wednesday. Samrat Choudhary will take the oath as the 24th Chief Minister of Bihar. Reports indicate that only two ministers will take the oath alongside him for now. The cabinet expansion will take place in the coming days, followed by the distribution of portfolios among the various ministers.
