On April 18, gunboats belonging to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reportedly fired upon two Indian-flagged oil tankers. These vessels were transporting Iraqi oil at the time of the incident. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported following the firing.

India responded swiftly to the provocation. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri summoned the Iranian Ambassador to lodge a formal protest and convey India's deep concerns. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has demanded guaranteed safety for its vessels and maritime personnel. Government sources confirmed that the crew members are safe and the ships didn't sustain any major structural damage. As a precautionary measure, the Indian Navy has been placed on high alert to ensure the security of Indian citizens and assets in the region.

Donald Trump's Reaction at the White House

During a press conference held at the Oval Office in the White House, US President Donald Trump was questioned about the firing on the two Indian vessels. ", Trump declined to provide a detailed response. Instead of addressing the specifics of the military action, he simply responded with a "Thank you," effectively ending the line of questioning on the subject.

Iran's Stance and Call for Peace

The Iranian side has also offered a reaction to the reported firing in the Strait of Hormuz. Dr. Abdul Majeed Hakim Elahi, the representative of Iran's Supreme Leader in India, emphasized that the relationship between Iran and India remains very strong, while he stated that he was unaware of the specific incident mentioned and expressed hope that any misunderstandings would be resolved. He further added that Iran doesn't seek war and desires peace, expressing hope that other parties would also adhere to peaceful conduct to maintain stability in the region.
