The Indore police have successfully apprehended the prime suspect in the brutal murder of an MBA student in the Dwarkapuri police station area. The accused, identified as Piyush, was arrested from Mumbai following a multi-state manhunt. According to police officials, the suspect confessed to strangling the victim to death and subsequently performing dehumanizing acts on the body. After the crime, the accused fled to Maharashtra, where he remained in hiding across various locations, including Panvel and Mumbai, before being tracked down by the Indore police team using technical surveillance.
Discovery of the Crime and Initial Investigation
The incident came to light on February 13 when residents of the Dwarkapuri area reported a foul smell emanating from a locked room. Upon reaching the spot, the police broke open the door and discovered the decomposed body of the female student, while given the condition of the body, investigators immediately suspected murder followed by sexual assault. It was later revealed that the victim's family had filed a missing person report at the Padrinath police station on February 12. Following the identification of the body, the police initiated a search for Piyush, who was identified as the victim's acquaintance and was missing since the day of the incident.
Motive Behind the Murder and Relationship Conflict
During interrogation, Piyush revealed that he and the victim studied at the same institute and were in a relationship. According to the suspect's statement to the police, he wanted to marry the victim, but she had been consistently refusing his proposals, while the victim reportedly wanted to end the relationship, which led to increasing tension between the two. On the day of the murder, the accused invited the victim to his room under the pretext of having a conversation. While there, he allegedly saw a betting and chatting application on her mobile phone, which triggered suspicions of her being in contact with another individual. This led to a violent confrontation, resulting in the victim's strangulation.
Post-Mortem Brutality and Occult Practices
The accused admitted to the police that he committed necrophilia after the victim had died. He then fled the city to evade arrest. In a bizarre revelation, Piyush claimed that he felt remorseful after the murder and sought to apologize to the victim's soul. To achieve this, he allegedly watched videos related to occult practices and tantra on the internet and YouTube. He claimed to have visited a secluded area in Mumbai to perform rituals intended to contact the deceased's spirit. DCP Crime Krishnalal Chandani stated that these claims are currently under investigation, as they could be an attempt by the accused to mislead the legal proceedings.
Technical Surveillance and Arrest in Maharashtra
The arrest was made possible through extensive technical surveillance and tracking of the suspect's mobile movements. The accused frequently changed his location within Maharashtra to avoid detection. A special team from the Indore police was dispatched to Mumbai, where they coordinated with local inputs to pin down his exact location. Officials noted that the suspect has been giving inconsistent statements during the initial rounds of questioning. The police are now investigating the timeline of his escape and identifying any individuals who may have provided him with shelter or assistance while he was on the run.
Legal Charges and Current Status of the Case
The Indore police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 302 (murder) and charges related to rape. The accused is being brought to Indore, where he will be produced before a court for police remand, while investigators are focusing on recovering physical evidence, including the victim's mobile phone and other forensic samples from the crime scene. The final forensic report is awaited to scientifically corroborate the post-mortem assault. Authorities have assured a thorough investigation to ensure that the accused faces the maximum legal penalty for the heinous crime.
