Earlier in 1964, Jesus Maria of Spain had scored in the sixth minute in the final against Russia. Italy's Leonardo Bonucci scored in the 67th minute to level the score at 1-1. At 34 years 71 days, Bonucci became the oldest player to score a goal in the final. The score was tied at 1-1 till full time. Both the teams could not score even in the extra time of 30 minutes.

Harry Kane, Harry Maguire scored for England in the penalty shootout while Marcus Rashford, Jaden Sancho and Bukayo Saka failed to score.
