London. Italy has won the Euro Cup title for the second time. In the final of Euro 2020, the team defeated England 3-2 in a penalty shootout. The score was tied at 1-1 till full time. England has not won a title in 55 years. Italy had earlier won the Euro Cup title in 1968 as well. Italy has not lost any match from 34 matches.

England got off to a great start in the final match played at London's Wembley Stadium. In the second minute, Luke Shaw scored a goal to give the team a 1-0 lead. This is the fastest goal of the final in Euro Cup history. Luke Shaw scored the goal in 1 minute 57 seconds. Earlier in 1964, Jesus Maria of Spain had scored in the sixth minute in the final against Russia. Italy's Leonardo Bonucci scored in the 67th minute to level the score at 1-1. At 34 years 71 days, Bonucci became the oldest player to score a goal in the final. The score was tied at 1-1 till full time. Both the teams could not score even in the extra time of 30 minutes.



Second time penalty came out

For the second time in Euro Cup history, the tournament resulted in a penalty shootout. Earlier in 1976, the penalty result came out. Harry Kane, Harry Maguire scored for England in the penalty shootout while Marcus Rashford, Jaden Sancho and Bukayo Saka failed to score. At the same time, Domenica Berardi, Leonardo Bonucci, Federico scored for Italy. Andrei Belotti, Jorginho could not score.


Scored the first goal of his career in the final

Luke Shaw, playing the 16th match for England, had not scored a goal in the first international match. The left-back player has also played for England's Under-16, Under-17 and Under-21 side. Luke Shaw, 25, plays for Manchester United in the English Premier League. He joined the club in 2014. Scored two goals in 128 matches.

If England were the winner, the Euro would have got a new champion. Only 10 countries have been able to win the tournament title. Germany and Spain captured the title the most 3-3 times. Spain and Italy were twice winners each. Apart from this, Russia, Czech Republic, Portugal, Netherlands, Denmark and Greece have won the tournament title once each. Portugal won the tournament title for the first time in 2016. But in the current season, the team was eliminated after losing in the round-16 itself. A total of 24 teams had entered the tournament. The tournament started on 11 June.
