New Delhi. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Thursday that India's foreign policy does not depend only on the fact that its policy is not compatible with some other countries. He was speaking on the topic 'Taking Friendship to the Next Level: Alliance in the Indo-Pacific' while participating in the 'Globesec-2022 Forum'. This statement from the foreign minister came when he was asked about New Delhi's stand on the Russo-Ukraine war. Along with this, S Jaishankar was also questioned whether India can afford to avoid decision-making as a rising world leader in such a situation.

When External Affairs Minister S. Asked whether India expects help from the world community in its position with China, Jaishankar said, "The idea that India helps someone, it will seek help from others in return and because if India In one conflict situation, it will help another conflict… The world doesn't work that way. A lot of our problems with China have nothing to do with Ukraine and Russia. They are there long before the start of this war."

'Today the solution to all the big challenges facing the world is coming from India'

The Foreign Minister said that there are many issues on which Europe has never talked about. "Europe has to break out of the mindset that Europe's problem is the world's problem, but the world's problem is not Europe's problem," he said. He said, “Today relations are building between China and India, but what else is happening in Ukraine. Tensions between China and India took place long before the Ukraine-Russia war. No one can deny this fact." Jaishankar said that the solution to all the big challenges facing the world today is coming from India in one form or the other.

India buying oil from Russia

Asked if India is not funding the ongoing war with Ukraine by buying oil from Russia, Jaishankar said, "Look, I don't want to argue. But then, isn't buying Russian gas the same as funding a war? Only Indian Rupee and Russian oil coming to India are funding the war… So what about Russian gas being sent to Europe?”

Is India 'ignoring' the Russia-Ukraine situation?

Responding to a journalist's question about India "ignoring" the Russo-Ukraine war, Jaishankar said India condemned the massacre in Bucha and also demanded a probe. “In the context of what is happening in the Ukraine conflict, our position is very clear that we are in favor of an immediate end to hostilities. Not that we have overlooked it till then. Had it been so, Prime Minister Narendra Modi would not have spoken to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky on the phone."
