On this day, devotees observe a day-long fast, waiting with deep faith for the arrival of their beloved deity. It's widely believed that performing the puja during the correct muhurat and following the complete rituals is essential for every devotee. Auspicious Muhurat for Janmashtami Puja

The midnight hour is considered the most sacred and optimal time for the worship of Lord Shri Krishna on Janmashtami. In the year 2026, the main puja muhurat for Janmashtami on 4 September will begin at 11:57 PM and continue until 12:43 AM on 5 September. This provides a total duration of approximately 46 minutes for the puja. Celebrating the birth of Bal-Krishna and completing the worship during this specific period is considered most fruitful. Devotion offered during this auspicious time pleases the Lord and helps in the fulfillment of wishes. Devotees are advised to complete all puja preparations in advance so that the rituals can be performed systematically without any hindrance during the muhurat. Worshipping in the correct muhurat ensures prosperity in the household.

Preparation, Abhishek, and Shringar Rituals

To begin the Janmashtami puja, one must first take a bath and wear clean clothes. Following this, place a wooden platform or chowki at the place of worship and spread a yellow or red cloth over it. At 12 midnight, place the idol of Laddu Gopal in a copper or brass plate and perform the Abhishek using Panchamrit followed by Gangajal. After the Abhishek, wipe the Lord gently and dress Him in new and beautiful garments. Then, apply a beautiful sandalwood tilak on His forehead and complete His Shringar by decorating Him with a crown, flute, and peacock feather. This Shringar, performed in the correct sequence, reflects true devotion towards the Lord. Decorating the Lord with such rules and purity brings immense peace to the mind and makes the act of worship very sacred.

Rules for Swing, Bhog, Aarti, and Shankhnaad

After the Shringar is complete, place Laddu Gopal in a beautiful swing and swing Him with deep emotion. Following this, offer a special Bhog of Makhan and Mishri along with Tulsi leaves to the Lord. After offering the Bhog, sing the Aarti of the Lord with incense and lamps, and welcome His arrival with joy by sounding the conch shell or Shankh, while once the worship is complete, distribute Charanamrit and Prasad among all the people present. In this manner, the Janmashtami puja is concluded with all the rules and methods, while this puja, performed with the correct procedure, purifies the atmosphere of the home and maintains the Lord's blessings on the family.
