A horrific fire incident at a coaching center and animation studio in Lucknow has shattered the lives of two families in Kanpur. The blaze claimed the lives of 28 year old Sanyam Vij and 25 year old Surajbhan Singh, both residents of Kanpur who were working together at the same animation studio. The news of their tragic demise reached Kanpur, leading to a wave of mourning and despair in their respective neighborhoods. Both young men were close friends and had been working in Lucknow for a considerable period, supporting their families after the loss of their fathers in previous years.
The Tragic Circumstances of Sanyam Vij
Sanyam Vij was a resident of Block-11 in the Govind Nagar area of Kanpur. His family was already in a state of mourning as his grandmother had passed away approximately 10 days ago. The family was preparing for her Terahvin ritual, which was scheduled to take place on Tuesday. Sanyam was expected to return home to participate in these final rites. His family members were eagerly waiting for his arrival, but instead, they received the heart-wrenching news of his death in the Lucknow fire. Sanyam was considered a highly responsible member of his family, while following the death of his father, Pushpraj Vij, several years ago, Sanyam had taken it upon himself to support the household through his job. His elder brother, Shubham, who works in Gurugram, rushed back to Kanpur with his wife upon hearing the news. Relatives described Sanyam as a cheerful and friendly individual who was performing well in his career. The family had high hopes for his future and was even in the process of looking for a suitable marriage proposal for him.
The Heartbreak of Surajbhan Singh
The second victim, Surajbhan Singh, resided in the Barra-7 locality of Kanpur. Like Sanyam, Surajbhan had also lost his father earlier. He's survived by his mother, Meera Devi, and his younger brother, Samrat. Surajbhan worked in Lucknow and made it a point to visit his family in Kanpur every weekend, while he had returned to Lucknow on Sunday to resume his duties, unaware that it would be his final journey. His nephew, Karan, shared that the family is completely broken by the incident. In a particularly moving detail, the family has chosen to hide the news of Surajbhan's death from his mother, Meera Devi, fearing that the shock might severely impact her health. Family members are struggling to maintain a facade of normalcy while dealing with their own immense grief.
Technical Failures and the Struggle for Survival
The fire broke out suddenly in the office where both young men were working. According to reports, the flames spread so rapidly that the employees had almost no time to escape, while many were trapped inside as thick smoke filled the premises, leading to death by suffocation and burns. Sanyam's uncle, Saurabh Dua, highlighted a critical technical failure that may have contributed to the high casualty count. He stated that the building where his nephew worked was equipped with sensor-based gates for entry and exit. During the fire, the technical systems were compromised, and the gates failed to open in time. This trapped the individuals inside, who struggled desperately to find a way out. Saurabh Dua emphasized that if the exit systems had functioned normally, many lives, including those of Sanyam and Surajbhan, might have been saved.
A Community in Mourning
Friends and neighbors of both victims are in a state of shock, while sanyam and Surajbhan were known for their helpful nature and their strong bond of friendship. They studied together, worked together, and ultimately met their end together in this tragic accident. A large number of relatives and acquaintances from Kanpur have traveled to Lucknow to claim the bodies. The atmosphere in their neighborhoods is somber, as homes that were recently discussing weddings and family gatherings are now preparing for funerals. The bodies are expected to reach Kanpur on Tuesday after the post-mortem examinations are completed, following which the final rites will be performed. This incident has not only robbed two families of their young sons but has also left the entire city of Kanpur in deep sorrow.
