In a significant and landmark judicial development, the Meerut District Court has delivered its final verdict in the sensational Blue Drum Murder Case that had gripped the state of Uttar Pradesh. On October 14, 2026, the court awarded the death penalty to the two primary accused, Muskan Rastogi and her paramour Sahil Shukla, for the cold-blooded murder of Saurabh Rajput. The judgment comes as a culmination of a rigorous legal process that sought justice for the victim and his family.

The Trial and Legal Proceedings

The legal journey to this verdict was marked by extensive arguments and a meticulous examination of evidence. The trial lasted for approximately 13 months, during which the court conducted 127 hearings to ensure every aspect of the case was scrutinized. The prosecution presented a strong case, relying on the testimonies of more than 22 witnesses who provided critical insights and evidence regarding the conspiracy and execution of the crime. Following the conclusion of these proceedings, the court had already pronounced Muskan Rastogi and Sahil Shukla guilty on September 30, 2026, reserving the announcement of the sentence for a later date.

Details of the Gruesome Incident

The case dates back to March 2025, when the brutal murder of Saurabh Rajput, a former employee of the Merchant Navy, came to light. The investigation revealed a harrowing tale of betrayal and cruelty. According to the prosecution, Saurabh's wife, Muskan Rastogi, along with her lover Sahil Shukla, conspired to eliminate him. After the murder was committed, the perpetrators went to extreme lengths to conceal the crime. The victim's body was dismembered into pieces, which were then placed inside a blue plastic drum, while to ensure the remains were never discovered, the drum was filled with cement and sealed shut. This gruesome method of disposal led to the case being widely referred to as the Blue Drum Murder Case.

The Sentencing via Video Conferencing

On the morning of Wednesday, October 14, 2026, the final sentencing took place through video conferencing. Both convicts, Muskan Rastogi and Sahil Shukla, are currently lodged in the Chaudhary Charan Singh Prison in Meerut. Before pronouncing the capital punishment, the judge addressed the convicts via the digital link, asking if they had any final statements or anything they wished to say in their defense regarding the sentencing. Both Muskan and Sahil chose to remain silent and declined to speak, while following this, the court passed the order for the death penalty, marking the end of one of the most high-profile murder trials in recent years in Meerut.
