Modi Govt Action On CBSE: Chairman Rahul Singh And Secretary Himanshu Gupta Transferred

The Modi government has taken a significant and decisive step regarding the ongoing controversies surrounding the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). In a major administrative overhaul, the government has ordered the immediate transfer of CBSE Chairman Rahul Singh and Secretary Himanshu Gupta. This development comes at a time when the board has been under intense scrutiny over its operational decisions and examination processes. Along with the transfers, the government has also announced the formation of a high-level inquiry committee to probe the procurement of On-Screen Marking (OSM) services by the board.

Parliamentary Standing Committee Grills Officials

The action follows a heated meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, where the top brass of the CBSE and the School Education Secretary were reportedly reprimanded. According to sources, the committee summoned the CBSE Chairman and the School Education Secretary to address several grievances and procedural lapses. The meeting, chaired by veteran leader Digvijaya Singh, saw tough questions being posed to the officials regarding the implementation of new systems.

During the proceedings, Digvijaya Singh questioned the CBSE Chairman about the apparent haste in implementing the new copy-checking process. He asked why such a significant change was rushed through without adequate preparation. Singh pointedly asked whether the process couldn't have been delayed by a year to ensure full readiness, rather than putting the future of millions of students at stake, while he further informed the CBSE Chairman and the Secretary that he would be providing a list of questions in writing, for which he expects detailed and formal responses.

Student Highlights Flaws in the System

In an unusual move, the committee also invited a student to the meeting to provide a first-hand account of the issues faced, while the student highlighted several critical flaws in the current system directly in front of the CBSE Chairman and the Secretary. This testimony added weight to the concerns regarding the board's recent administrative choices. Reacting to the student's detailed explanation, BJP MP Bhim Singh took a swipe at the CBSE officials. He remarked that if the officials were unable to manage the tasks effectively, they should consider making the student their assistant to simplify their work.

Opposition MPs Raise Serious Allegations

The criticism wasn't limited to the committee chair or the ruling party members. Samajwadi Party MP Ziaur Rahman Barq also raised serious questions before the CBSE Chairman and the Secretary. Barq questioned the rationale behind awarding the contract for checking answer sheets to a company that allegedly lacked proper knowledge and expertise in the field, while he demanded to know why the CBSE showed such urgency in this matter and why teachers weren't provided with adequate training before the rollout of the new system.

Ziaur Rahman Barq emphasized that the responsibility for this negligence lies not only with the private company involved but also with the CBSE officials who oversaw the process. He called for strict action against everyone involved in the perceived mismanagement. The formation of the inquiry committee to look into the OSM procurement is seen as a direct response to these allegations of procedural irregularities and lack of transparency.
