Opposition and Protests in New York
Despite the spiritual nature of the visit, Mohan Bhagwat's presence in New York faced opposition. On August 29, protests were organized against his scheduled programs. New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani made critical remarks against the RSS. Also, several Hindu organizations in the United States expressed their opposition to an event titled Universal Oneness Celebration, organized by the AHEAD Forum at Madison Square Garden. Sunita Vishwanath, Director of the organization Hindus for Human Rights, stated that 61 different religious and secular organizations signed an open letter against the program. She mentioned that representatives from these groups would attend to voice their stance that the RSS and its ideology don't represent them.
