The Southwest Monsoon is scheduled to make its official entry into India through the coast of Kerala today, bringing a significant shift in the country's weather patterns, while according to the latest updates from the India Meteorological Department, this arrival is expected to trigger heavy rainfall across various states. While the southern tip of the country prepares for the monsoon's onset, the weather in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) has begun to transition. The pleasant weather that was observed in Delhi recently is gradually fading, giving way to an increase in temperatures and rising heat levels.
Storm Warnings and High-Speed Winds in North India
The weather department has issued a stern warning for Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi for June 4. These regions are expected to witness intense thunderstorms and dust storms. The wind speeds during these atmospheric disturbances could range between 50 to 60 kilometers per hour, with some areas potentially experiencing gusts reaching up to 70 kilometers per hour. Despite the rising heat, there is a possibility of light rainfall in these northern plains, which might provide temporary relief from the increasing mercury levels.
Hailstorm Alerts for Multiple States
Significant weather activity is also predicted for the central and northern hilly regions. The meteorological department has highlighted the possibility of hailstorms in Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan on June 4. On top of that, regions such as Chhattisgarh, Eastern Madhya Pradesh, and Western Madhya Pradesh are also on alert for hailstorms today. In addition to the hail, Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.
Heavy Rainfall Forecast for Southern and Northeastern Regions
As the monsoon progresses, heavy rainfall is anticipated in Kerala, North Interior Karnataka, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya. These areas may also witness strong winds blowing at speeds of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour. The forecast extending from June 4 to June 7 indicates heavy downpours for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim. On top of that, rainfall is expected to cover parts of Jharkhand and Odisha during this period, marking a widespread wet spell across the eastern and southern belts of the country.
Weather Outlook for Uttar Pradesh
In Uttar Pradesh, the weather presents a mixed bag of conditions. Western Uttar Pradesh is likely to remain hot and humid throughout the day. Residents in districts such as Meerut, Noida, Ghaziabad, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Saharanpur, Mathura, and Agra are expected to face bright sunshine and strong winds. However, a shift in weather is possible by the afternoon, with cloud cover and light drizzling expected to offer some respite. An 'Orange Alert' has been specifically issued for Saharanpur, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat, Meerut, and surrounding areas due to predicted storms with wind speeds of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour. Meanwhile, in Central UP, cities like Lucknow, Kanpur, Unnao, Barabanki, Rae Bareli, Sitapur, and Hardoi will see partly cloudy skies with chances of light rain and thundershowers, leading to a slight dip in temperatures.
