Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has once again highlighted the deep-rooted friendship between India and Israel, asserting that India is home to the largest number of supporters for the Jewish state. Speaking at a conference held in the West Bank, Netanyahu emphasized that while Israel faces challenges regarding its legitimacy in various parts of the world, the situation in India is remarkably different, while he described India as a huge power and noted the unique and strong relationship that exists between New Delhi and Tel Aviv. According to the Prime Minister, the level of support Israel receives from the Indian population is truly extraordinary and perhaps unmatched by any other nation in the world today.

The Enduring Bond Between India and Israel

Netanyahu took the opportunity to reflect on the historical and emotional ties that bind the two nations. 4 billion people, holds a significant place in Israel's foreign relations. He recalled his previous visit to India in 2018, where he was accompanied by his wife, Sara Netanyahu. Describing that visit as a love fest, he mentioned how they were welcomed with immense affection and respect by the Indian people and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Netanyahu stated that the respect for Israel in India is palpable and that the warm reception they received remains a testament to the popularity of Israel within the South Asian giant. He noted that in a world where Israel often struggles for legitimacy, the Indian public stands as a pillar of support.

Declining Popularity in the United States

The Israeli leader's comments come at a time when his popularity in the United States appears to be on the decline, while citing a recent survey conducted by the Pew Research Center in April, Netanyahu addressed the shifting public opinion in America. The survey revealed that 60 percent of American adults now hold a negative view of Israel, an increase from 53 percent recorded last year. Plus, the data suggests that 59 percent of American adults have little to no confidence in Netanyahu's ability to do the right thing in world affairs, compared to 52 percent in the previous year. These statistics indicate a growing disconnect between the Israeli leadership and the American public, which Netanyahu is keen to address.

Allegations Against Pakistan

In a surprising turn, Netanyahu attributed this decline in American support to external manipulation, specifically naming Pakistan. During the same interview, he accused Pakistan of using social media platforms to fuel anti-Israel sentiments among the American populace. He alleged that countries seeking to weaken the strategic alliance between the United States and Israel are actively manipulating social media narratives, while netanyahu claimed that these efforts are designed to distort public perception and create a rift between the two long-standing allies. By pointing towards Pakistan, he suggested that the negative trends in US polls aren't merely organic but are being driven by coordinated digital campaigns from hostile entities aimed at undermining the US-Israel relationship.
