The Horrific Scene Unfolds

Casualties and Medical Response

Eyewitness accounts describe the dumper truck, which was reportedly empty, heading from the Lohamandi petrol pump side towards the highway via Road Number 14, while suddenly, its brakes failed, causing it to lose control and rampage through the traffic. Head Constable Ravindra stated that the dumper had been hitting people and vehicles for approximately 300 meters before coming to a halt. Anything that came in its way was mercilessly crushed. Rakesh Kumar Jangid and Ramdayal Meena, who witnessed the tragedy, recounted how the dumper, coming from the wrong side, first crushed a motorcycle at the intersection, then proceeded to run over a Swift car and three other vehicles. The dumper's speed was so immense that even the road barriers were completely twisted and mangled. Debris such as the bonnet of a Swift Dzire, truck tires, two-wheeler number plates, and other vehicle parts were strewn across the road, painting a grim picture of the collision's impact. Eleven individuals tragically lost their lives at the scene of the accident. Police have taken possession of the bodies and placed them in the mortuary at Kanwatiya Hospital. There is apprehension that the death toll might rise, given the critical condition of several injured victims. A total of 18 people were reported injured, with three of them in severe condition, necessitating their referral to the Trauma Center at SMS Hospital. The hospital management has activated an alert, with doctors and nursing staff teams on standby to provide immediate medical attention to the injured. The swift response from medical personnel is crucial in managing the aftermath of such a large-scale disaster.

Emergency Response and Investigation

Upon receiving news of the accident, police and rescue teams promptly arrived at the site. Traffic was immediately diverted to facilitate smooth rescue operations and manage the chaotic scene. Efforts are underway to remove the dumper truck, which remained on the road, obstructing traffic flow. Ambulances were used to transport the injured to the hospital without delay. The police have initiated an investigation into the incident, and a search for the dumper driver is ongoing. This tragic event once again highlights critical concerns regarding road safety measures and prompts a re-evaluation of strategies to prevent such devastating accidents in the future, ensuring the safety of commuters on public roads.
