Asia Cup 2023: It seems that the ruckus regarding the Asia Cup will continue and like every time, Pakistan is once again becoming the reason. After several months of confrontation, an agreement was finally reached to organize the tournament last month, but now the Pakistan Cricket Board is again trying to stall it in the middle and for this it has started making promises. According to reports, the new PCB boss has now started demanding more Asia Cup matches to be held in their country.

The Asia Cup to be held in August-September is being organized on the hybrid model this time. It was accepted by the Asian Cricket Council only after the proposal of Najam Sethi, former chairman of the Pakistani board. Under this, the first 4 matches of the 6-team tournament are to be played in Pakistan and the remaining 9 matches including the final will be held in Sri Lanka. The tournament is to run from 31 August to 13 September.

PCB's obstruction in ACC meeting

The schedule of the Asia Cup has not been announced yet. It is expected to be approved in the ACC meeting on Sunday, July 16, but the Pakistani board is in a mood to block the meeting. According to the report of the news agency PTI, the new head of the Pakistan Board Zaka Ashraf will raise this issue in this meeting. It has been told in the report that Ashraf had indicated this demand to the ACC member countries in the ICC conference held in Durban this week.

Trying to snatch the match from Sri Lanka

In the report, quoting the sources of the Pakistani board, it has been told that PCB wants more than 4 matches. An argument for this is being given because of the monsoon conditions in Sri Lanka. According to this, considering the rain situation in Sri Lanka, there is a possibility of the matches being affected and in such a situation PCB is going to demand some more matches to be given to Pakistan.

Now whatever the PCB tries, there is little chance of meeting its demand. The reason for this is the difficulties of conducting tournaments in two places simultaneously and the problems of teams going from one country to another. That is, overall, Zaka Ashraf is sure to be disappointed.
