A massive political storm has broken out over the comments made by Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The controversy stems from an event titled 'Rachnatmak Congress' held in Delhi on Thursday evening, where Rahul Gandhi's remarks and actions have drawn sharp criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). During the program, Rahul Gandhi reportedly mocked the Prime Minister, claiming that he had caused PM Modi to lose sleep. He further alleged that Home Minister Amit Shah is so intimidated that he can't muster the courage to enter Parliament. Rahul Gandhi also took a swipe at India's foreign policy, suggesting that PM Modi equates hugging heads of state with international diplomacy, leading him to embrace foreign leaders wherever he goes. To illustrate his point, Rahul Gandhi performed an act by hugging Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit on stage.

The situation escalated when Sandeep Dikshit made highly controversial remarks involving Prime Minister Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, which have been widely condemned. In response, senior BJP leaders have launched a coordinated attack on Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party. Union Minister and BJP National President JP Nadda expressed his dismay on the social media platform X, describing Rahul Gandhi's conduct as a misfortune for the country's democracy. Nadda stated that it's a sad state of affairs for the Congress party that they've to accept Rahul Gandhi as their leader, adding that such a Leader of the Opposition is something the nation had yet to witness.
Accusations of Indecency and Failed Comedy
' Union Minister Giriraj Singh also weighed in, stating that Rahul Gandhi's behavior was completely unacceptable and reflected his deep-seated frustration, while singh pointed out that despite having Prime Ministers in his own family, Rahul Gandhi has failed to grasp the nuances of foreign policy, which he claimed is now limited to Gandhi going abroad and criticizing India.
Insult to Women and Foreign Relations
The controversy also touched upon the dignity of women in public life. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan condemned the behavior of the opposition leader, noting that while Gandhi mocked foreign policy through hugs, another member of his party used inappropriate language regarding the Prime Minister of a sovereign nation. Chouhan termed this an insult to mothers and sisters worldwide. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma echoed these sentiments, stating that the Congress's dynastic leadership has once again crossed all limits of decency. He highlighted that objectionable comments were made about a female head of state from a friendly nation while women in the audience laughed, calling it an attempt to damage India's foreign relations and a reflection of a culture where insulting women is treated as a joke.
Amit Malviya's Detailed Critique and Reference to Sheila Dikshit
' Malviya argued that this mindset reduces women in public life to objects of desire rather than professional leaders deserving of respect. He emphasized that this isn't just about being 'politically incorrect' but about basic decency, while malviya further noted that targeting PM Modi and dragging a foreign female leader into a derogatory public taunt shows the extent to which Congress has fallen. He warned that the decline in Congress's political discourse would cost them in the elections. Interestingly, Malviya also recalled how PM Modi had expressed grief in 2024 over the baseless corruption allegations and insults faced by the late Sheila Dikshit, the former CM of Delhi. He pointed out the irony that her son, Sandeep Dikshit, is now stooping to the level of mocking PM Modi alongside Rahul Gandhi, turning international diplomacy into a cheap and vulgar joke.
