New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday imposed a seven-year ban on former Sri Lankan performance analyst Sanath Jayasundara for violating the Anti-Corruption Code. Jayasundara has been found guilty of several major charges.

ICC banned

The ICC said in a statement, "Sanath Jayasundara, a former performance analyst for Sri Lankan cricket, was found guilty of breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code by the ICC Anti-Corruption Tribunal, after which he was sentenced to seven years from all cricket activities." The ban was imposed. The ICC said, "This ban will come into effect from May 11, 2019, when it was temporarily suspended."

Found guilty of multiple charges

The tribunal found Jayasundara guilty of two charges. The ICC said, "Rule 2.1.30 - Offer of bribe or other reward to the Minister of Sports of Sri Lanka in order to find a way to influence the outcome, progress, conduct or any other aspect of an international match." "Rule 2.4.7 - Obstructing or delaying the Anti-Corruption Unit's investigation of possible corrupt conduct under the ICC's Anti-Corruption Code," the body said.

Alex Marshall, general manager of the ICC's Ethics Unit, has said that what Jayasundara did was disappointing. In May 2019, Jayasundara was named an accused by the ICC and then he was provisionally suspended.
