Ahmedabad Plane Crash: The heartbreaking Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on Thursday left the whole country in grief. Flight AI-171, which was a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, left Ahmedabad for London at 1:38 pm. But just two minutes after takeoff, the plane crashed. In this tragedy, 241 out of 242 passengers died, while the only passenger, 40-year-old Vishwas Kumar Ramesh, managed to come out alive from this accident.

Vishwas returned from the shadow of death

British citizen Vishwas Kumar Ramesh was returning to the UK after touring India with his brother Ajay Kumar Ramesh. His seat was 11A, which was in the part of the plane that collided with a building. After the accident, PM Narendra Modi himself reached the hospital and met Vishwas. He inquired about that horrific moment from Vishwas.

Vishwas told the Prime Minister, “I myself cannot believe that I am alive. At the time of the accident, it seemed that now life is over. But when I regained consciousness, I found that I was still breathing. I opened the seat belt and tried to get out. Somehow I came out of the plane.”

Eyewitness scene: "Saw people burning alive"

Vishwas told that the left side of his body was burnt after the fire. “I saw the air hostess, uncle-aunty, children burning in front of my eyes. No one survived. There were dead bodies lying all around. I came out on foot and then reached the hospital with the help of an ambulance,” he said while talking to the media.

Brother's death broke me

Vishwas's brother Ajay Kumar Ramesh, who was sitting on another seat in the plane, died in the accident. Vishwas said, “My brother was just a few seats away from me, but he could not be saved. Even today I am not able to understand how I survived.”

The whole country is in mourning

Many eminent personalities including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani also lost their lives in this horrific accident. The government has ordered a high-level inquiry into the accident. PM Modi expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and said that this is an irreparable loss for the country.
