Recommendations for Customers
For customers who are planning to make any urgent payments around midnight, the bank suggests not waiting until the maintenance window begins, while completing essential transactions before 12:15 AM on September 4 can help avoid payment failures. For those who need to make small-value purchases, the bank recommends adding money to their UPI Lite account before the scheduled downtime. Also, customers are advised to keep other payment options ready, such as debit cards, net banking, or accounts in other banks, to ensure they can complete necessary transactions if an emergency arises during the 45-minute interruption. Once the maintenance work is finished, normal UPI transactions will resume immediately.
Understanding UPI Transaction Limits
SBI has also reiterated the current transaction limits for its UPI services to keep customers informed. For standard UPI transactions, SBI allows customers to transfer up to 100000 rupees in a single day. For person-to-person (P2P) payments, there is a daily limit of 20 transactions. However, the limits are higher for certain verified merchant categories, while for insurance and capital market transactions, the limit is set at 200000 rupees. Plus, for specific purposes such as IPOs, tax payments, and payments to hospitals, schools, and colleges, the transaction limit is extended up to 500000 rupees.
UPI Lite Features and Limits
To facilitate small-value transactions without the need for a UPI PIN, SBI promotes the use of UPI Lite, while this feature is designed for quick payments of up to 1000 rupees per transaction. Users can maintain a maximum balance of 5000 rupees in their UPI Lite wallet at any given time. Since UPI Lite operates independently of the core banking system for individual transactions once the wallet is loaded, it serves as an effective alternative during periods of scheduled maintenance or server downtime, ensuring that small daily payments remain unaffected.
