Smart prepaid meters will be installed in 16 lakh houses in the state, now there will be real time monitoring of the meter of consumers

Smart prepaid meters will soon be installed in 16 lakh houses of the state. After getting the in-principle consent from the Centre, the state cabinet has also approved it. With the issuance of the order, the work of smart prepaid meter will go ahead. According to UPCL MD Anil Kumar, there are about 26 to 27 lakh consumers in the state.

Smart prepaid meters have already been installed in these industries. There are about 18 lakh consumers with 1 to 75 kW capacity. Out of this, smart prepaid meters will be installed in the homes of about 16.50 lakh consumers. UPCL MD Anil Kumar said that first of all, smart prepaid meters will be installed at the establishments of commercial and consumers up to 5 kW.

An average of Rs 6,000 will be spent per meter, out of which 22.5 percent will be given as a grant from the Centre. The rest of the money will be given by UPCL to the metering company at the rate of per meter per month for ten years. Consumers will not have to pay any separate cost for this meter.

UPCL will know everything

After installation of smart prepaid meter, UPCL will be able to keep track of all the consumers. For example, how much electricity a consumer with one kilowatt connection is consuming per month. If its consumption is more, then the capacity of its electricity connection will be increased accordingly. UPCL will be able to get the information of every consumer in the control room in real time.

Meters will be installed first at the places where electricity is stolen

There are many such cities and villages in the state, which are famous for theft of electricity. Prepaid meters will be installed in all these places in the first phase. The aim of UPCL is to control power theft at the earliest. Since the meters will be prepaid, the connection will be disconnected if someone does not pay the electricity bill.
